Percentage – Basic Concept
A percentage means a part of 100. The word percentage comes from the Latin term “per centum”, which means “per hundred.” It is represented by the symbol %.
This formula is used to calculate the percentage of a value compared to the total.
Simple Examples
Example 1:
If a student scores 60 marks out of 100, the percentage is:10060×100=60%
So, the student scored 60%.
Example 2:
In a class of 50 students, if 25 students pass, the pass percentage is:5025×100=50%
So, the pass percentage is 50%.
