The RRB Group D Selection Procedure is structured to assess candidates for various posts in Indian Railways under Level 1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. Here’s the step-by-step process:
RRB Group D Selection Process
1. Computer-Based Test (CBT) – Phase 1
- Type: Objective, Multiple Choice
- Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates)
- Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness & Current Affairs
- Total Marks: 100
- Negative Marking: 1/3 for each wrong answer
Minimum qualifying marks (percentage):
- UR: 40%
- EWS: 40%
- OBC (NCL): 30%
- SC: 30%
- ST: 25%
(Relaxable by 2% for PwBD candidates)
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Phase 2
Only candidates who qualify the CBT and are shortlisted based on merit will be called for the PET, which is qualifying in nature.
For Male Candidates:
- Should be able to lift and carry 35 kg for 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting the weight down.
- Should be able to run 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one go.
For Female Candidates:
- Should be able to lift and carry 20 kg for 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting the weight down.
- Should be able to run 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one go.
3. Document Verification (DV) – Phase 3
Candidates who qualify in the PET will be called for Document Verification based on their performance in CBT (and reservation norms).
Documents required include:
- Educational certificates
- Age proof
- Caste certificate (if applicable)
- PwBD certificate (if applicable)
- Identity proof
- Medical certificate, etc.
4. Medical Examination – Final Step
After successful document verification, candidates must pass a Medical Fitness Test conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure they are medically fit for the duties of the post.
Medical standards include:
- Vision standards (depending on the post)
- General physical health
Final Selection:
- Based on merit in CBT (subject to qualifying PET, DV, and Medical Exam).
- No marks are awarded for PET and DV.
RRB Group D Eligibility Criteria
1. Nationality / Citizenship
A candidate must be either:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 intending to settle permanently, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam intending to settle in India permanently.
Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
2. Age Limit (As per latest notification)
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 33 years
Age is calculated as on a specific date mentioned in the official notification.

3. Educational Qualification
- Minimum Requirement:
✅ 10th Pass (Matriculation) OR
✅ ITI from NCVT/SCVT recognized institute OR
✅ Equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of India.
Candidates awaiting results of the final exam cannot apply.
4. Medical Standards
Candidates must pass a Medical Fitness Test conducted by Railway Administration to ensure they are fit for the post they are applying for.
